The city of Warrenton has released digital images of a new aquatic center that is planned for construction within the next year. The images show what the exterior of the building could look like, along with potential views of the indoor pool area. Renderings for the 7,000-square-foot indoor pool feature several segmented areas for two lap lanes, a slide, a lazy river, a children’s area with water features, and general swimming areas. The pool entry into the children’s area would be a “zero entry beach,” which is a shallow slope leading into the water, like at a beach. A shallow, curved wall in the rendering mostly encloses the children’s area from the rest of the pool. The indoor pool would be 7 feet at its deepest, according to information published by the city.A noticeable feature of the building’s exterior rendering is that a large, looping tube slide exits the interior of the building, taking several twists before re-entering into the indoor pool.Renderings of the outdoor pool were not available. That pool is expected to be smaller, about 2,400 square feet, according to information from the city. Plans include two lap lanes, a diving area and canvases for shade. The facility itself is planned to have locker rooms, a party room, a lobby, a family restroom and staff offices. The city of Warrenton is planning to fund construction of this new aquatic center and a surrounding 39-acre park by borrowing money in the form of general obligation bonds. However, voters must give the city permission to issue up to $7.5 million in bonds, a decision that will be made in an Aug. 8 public vote.In promotional material for what has been labeled “Proposition A,” the city states that the bond issuance would not involve a tax increase, and would be paid for using existing recreation taxes. However, passing the bond measure would authorize the city to levy property taxes if it ever becomes necessary to pay off the bonds. The promotion also states that the question is not whether the project will go forward — work has already begun to clear the park area and prepare to pave new roads and a parking lot. Instead, the question city leaders need answered is how the project will be financed.
