It was a milestone meet for Brian Lanigan on Tuesday at Washington High School. The Warrenton senior again set a personal best in the triple jump by clearing 41 feet, 4 inches.“That was awesome for him,” said Coach Steve McDowell. “He came in real fresh and performed really well.”His distance was down slightly in the long jump, but Lanigan stepped in to help the sprint relays, who were missing some of the usual competitors. Lanigan joined Jordon Washington, Drake Wagner and Dartrez Muetz on the 400- and 800-meter relay team, which took second and first, respectively.Washington had an exceptional day in the 100, winning the event with ease.“He was far above the competition and continues to do a great job in those races,” said McDowell. He also raved about pole vaulter Caleb Hodgson, who cleared 11 feet, 6 inches.“It was good to see him continue what he’d done from last week,” said McDowell.Additionally, Dane Huck tied a personal best by clearing 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump.Warrenton was led in the throwing events by Nick Boling, who tosssed a distance of 109 feet in the discus.“He’s been very consistent this year,” added McDowell, who says Wyatt Wielms also performed well in the discus while Dylan Pyatt competed in the shot put.Not all competitors were present for the Warriors during the meet. They did, however, show improvement in the distance events, as senior Jacob Ruby shaved time off his previous mile and two-mile finishes.“It was a good meet for our kids to go out and compete and see different competition from last week,” said McDowell.Girls coach Mike Spoede was just thankful it wasn’t a medal meet, but his crew has just days to prepare with the first official meet taking place on Friday at St. Dominic.Tuesday’s meet was a struggle for the girls team, which is still trying to find some identity.“Our distance runners were back and we didn’t finish any relays with batons getting out of their zones,” lamented Spoede. “It’s definitely a work in progress.”He says the Warriors will work on finalizing the relay teams and developing the younger sprints.“We hope to get a couple good practices in and see how Friday turns out,” said Spoede.WARRENTON TRACKBill Battle Photo.
