Due to storms earlier in the week, the Warrenton baseball team took on GAC North rival St. Charles in a doubleheader at home on Thursday.
The Warriors swept both ends of the twin bill, by scores of 10-7 and 6-3.
In the opener, a five-run fifth erased a two-run deficit and provided the final score. All five runs in the inning came with two outs.
First, a two-run hit off the bat of Ric Standley tied the score before the winning run came in an error on a batted ball by Tate Augler.
Jake Kirkpatrick earned the win for the Warriors.
In the nightcap, Warrenton led the entire way. Playing as the visiting team, Warrenton scored single runs in the first and second innings and a pair in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
The second game began just as the scoring ended in the first, as an error on a batted ball by Augler scored Standley. In the third, Keegan Lehmkuhl scored on an error, and Mason Haas scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Keeton Young earned the win in game No. 2 for Warrenton (12-11).
The Warriors will next take on Troy on the road at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
WRIGHT CITY FALLS IN MOBERLY OPENER – A fifth-inning single from Tyler Martin was all the Wildcats could muster in a 2-1 loss to Fatima at the Moberly Tournament.
Brayden Niemann suffered the loss for Wright City (13-12). He tossed a complete game in the defeat, striking out and walking four batters each.
Fatima scored both of the team’s runs in the fourth inning to take the lead.
Wright City will continue tournament play today with games against Eldon at 12:30 p.m. and host Mexico at 5:30.
POSTSEASON BEGINS FOR WARRENTON VOLLEYBALL – The Warrenton boys’ volleyball team will try to knock off Holt for a third time this season when the teams play Friday.
This time, though, the game will carry more weight, as the teams will play at 6 p.m. at St. Dominic in a Class 1 District 5 opening-round game. The winner will play the top-seeded host in a district semifinal on Monday.
Earlier this season, Warrenton (10-10-1) defeated Holt in three games at Holt on April 2 and again at home on April 21.
