"We haven't lost in a long time, but now it's out of the way. We got to get back to work, make sure we're executing and doing the little things right," Warrenton coach Jason Koper said.
The Eagles took the lead with five minutes left in the first quarter after quarterback Sullivan Thornton threw a 13-yard pass to Caleb Orcutt.
Liberty scored a couple of minutes later on a 49-yard touchdown pass from Thornton to Jaylen Mack. The Warriors ended the first quarter down 14-0.
In the second quarter, Liberty punched one more in on Sullivan’s two-yard run.
In the next drive, Warrenton senior Taylor Anderson sacked Sullivan.
With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Mack scored off a 14-yard run to put Liberty up 28-0.
Warrenton junior Jordan Lopez came up big for the Warriors after intercepting a pass from Liberty’s Thornton. Lopez took the ball to the Warriors’ 49-yard line. Warrenton went into halftime trailing 28-0.
In the third, Anderson recorded his second sack of the night, and Liberty scored its final touchdown on a 4-yard run from Mack.
Closing out the game for Warrenton was quarterback Mason Sanders. He completed four of seven passes.
Warrenton drops to a 2-1 season record, while Liberty improves to 3-0.
