A Warrenton High School student was killed Saturday, April 12, when he was ejected from the vehicle he was driving, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Jesus I. Pinedo-Almaraz, 17, Wright City, was pronounced dead at 4:56 p.m. The patrol reported Pinedo-Almaraz was driving a 2007 Toyota Scion southbound on Highway D when the car traveled off the right side of the road and struck a tree stump, ejecting him from the vehicle. The car then struck a tree and caught fire, the patrol said.

The crash occurred at 4:30 p.m. about one mile north of Highway 47 in Lincoln County. The patrol said Pinedo-Almaraz was not wearing a seat belt.

Pinedo-Almaraz was a junior at Warrenton High School. School officials said students were notified about the fatality Monday morning and extra counselors were brought in.

“Jesus was a great young guy,” Principal Jeremy Way said. “He made a lot of friends at the high school. He was only with us half a day and went to vo-tech where he studied collision repair.

“He was a good, young man. He was never in trouble whatsoever.”

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m.-noon at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton. A memorial service will be held following visitation.
