Warrenton student killed in crash

A Warrenton High School student was killed in a crash and another student was injured on Veterans Memorial Parkway in Warrenton Monday morning.The crash happened just after 7 a.m., involving a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck.High school senior Megan N. Gross was killed in the crash, officials said. Max P. Wipfler, another student of the same age in the vehicle with Gross, was rushed to the hospital.“Our sympathy, concern, and prayers are with all of the families involved in this tragedy,” R-III Superintendant Dr. Gregg Klinginsmith said in a letter to parents. “Our main focus at this point is about support as we take care of our students, staff, and all who are impacted by this loss.”A preliminary crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol states Wipfler was the driver of the pickup truck, a 2002 Dodge Ram. The pickup truck and the tractor-trailer were westbound on Veterans Memorial Parkway.Wipfler was attempting to pass the tractor-trailer when the crash occurred, according to the Highway Patrol. At the same time, tractor-trailer driver Daniel C. Roark, 47, of Bellflower, began turning left onto one of the private drives on the roadway.The front of the pickup truck struck the tractor-trailer as it was turning. The pickup traveled off the left side of the road and overturned.Gross was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, the Highway Patrol said. The patrol reported Wipfler as having moderate injuries. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis by Warren County Ambulance.Roark, the tractor-trailer driver, was not reported to have any injuries.The Highway Patrol stated Gross was wearing a seat belt. It’s unknown whether Wipfler was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

A pickup truck was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Veterans Memorial Parkway in Warrenton Sept. 17. Warren County R-III school officials said one high school student was killed in the crash, and one other was involved.
