Warrenton Sprinters Advance to State

The Warrenton track team qualified six events for the MSHSAA Championships during the Class 3 sectional meet at Mexico on Saturday. Senior Devin Ray had an outstanding showing, advancing in both the 100- and 200-meter races, while also helping two relay teams push through. The 800-meter relay crew, consisting of freshman Justin McBroom, sophomore Jordon Washington, junior Drake Wagner and Ray, won the event, while setting a new school record with a time of 1:30.09. The same cast of runners took fourth in the 400-meter relay, finishing in 43.8 seconds. Wagner also advanced in the open 200-meter race, placing fourth, while Ray finished second. Ray won the open 100-meter dash. The girls team qualified two competitors, with senior Melanie Raterman winning the discus throw with a best toss of 117 feet, 6 inches. Sophomore Madeline Carlson advanced in the two-mile run, finishing third with a time of 12:09.
