Things looked bleak for the Warrenton softball team late in its game Tuesday.
Trailing visiting Holt by six runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Warriors suddenly sprang to life.
The home team sent seven hitters to the plate, all of whom scored, and roared past the Indians for the 8-7 win on a three-run, walk-off home run by junior Rylee Cary.
Her blast was the second big hit of the inning as freshman Savanna Oakley also hit a three-run shot in the inning.
“Rylee hit a pinch-hit walk-off to win the game,” Warrenton Coach Chad Berrey said.
The blasts made a winner out of freshman relief pitcher Brooklyn Young.
She pitched the final four innings in relief of junior Hannah Gibson to earn the victory for Warrenton (6-5).
The Warriors return to the diamond today as the team travels to Fulton for a 4:15 p.m. first pitch.
WRIGHT CITY VOLLEYBALL 3, LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 0 – The Wildcats continued the team’s recent winning ways by earning the 25-5, 25-13, 25-20 win on the road against the Eagles.
Senior Jaiden Walch led the team in kills with 11 while senior Josephine Grueneberg and junior Zola Jones added three apiece.
Junior Emerson Wendt led the team with 10 assists while Grueneberg added eight.
Senior Marli Burkhardt paced the way with 15 digs while Walch and junior Brooke Henson added seven each.
Walch also led the Wildcats (9-4) with five service aces.
Wildcats Coach Gabby Vogt said she’s happy to see the team responding well to adversity, such as an 0-3 record at the Orchard Farm Tournament last weekend.
“(This) was another team-effort win, and everyone was able to contribute,” Vogt said. “Coming out of the tournament this past weekend, we weren’t happy with how we looked, but we learned from the challenge and used it as an opportunity to grow. After the wins last night and tonight, I couldn’t be happier with the tenacity of this team. There is still a lot of room to grow as we head into our second round of conference play, with districts not too far away. I have so much faith in these girls. They continue to get better every day, and we just need to keep this momentum going.”
WARRENTON SOCCER 3, PACIFIC 1 – The Warriors scored first and used a big second half to roll past visiting Pacific.
Sophomore midfielder David Ross provided the game-winning goal while other tallies came from senior forward Tyler Scruggs and junior midfielder Ian Young.

WRIGHT CITY SOFTBALL 6, MARK TWAIN 3 – Harper Martin has three hits to lead the Wildcats while Lorelai Kellner added two more, including a two-run home run in the 1st inning.
Kellner also struck out nine to help Wright City (8-8) earn the win.
Wright City is off until next Tuesday when the team hosts Bowling Green at 4:30 p.m.
HOLT SOCCER 2, WRIGHT CITY 1 (OT) – Drew Staats scored off a corner kick assist from Zach Frey-Collins, but the visiting Indians managed to win in overtime.
