Warrenton soccer ready for spring season

The Warrenton Lady Warrior soccer team returns multiple varsity players from last year’s team as they look to have a strong 2022 season.

Warrenton soccer coach Amy Wargowsky said the Lady Warriors return nine varsity players from last year’s team. That is a good aspect of this year’s team, she said. The Lady Warriors have fewer players on the team this year than
in past years.

“I’m excited with the girls we have,” Wargowsky said. “It should be a good year.”

They have freshmen on the team with promising high school careers, Wargowsky said.

Wargowsky noted one of the necessary adjustments for new players at the high school level is the difference between high school soccer and club soccer. It takes time for them to adjust, she said.

“You have a wider range of ability in a high school than you do in a club,” Wargowsky said. ”Because club they get to pick who they want on their team. Whereas, in high school you’re playing with different abilities.”

Wargowsky encouraged each player to set their own goals for the season. She noted many players on her team have vastly different goals.

“I always ask what their goal is for the season,” Wargowsky said. “And then what are they willing to do. Some of them want to be on varsity. I’m like this is what you have to do. And identifying what they can do to do that. So and some girls just do it for fun, and that’s all they want out of it, and they just want to be a part of the team. So just knowing what each girl wants. And I always ask them that. Because I figure I’m the coach, but this is really their team.”
