Record Managing EditorThe postseason is here for local cross country teams and Warrenton has several runners ready to extend their season. The Warriors will host the Class 3, District 4 Meet this Saturday at the high school. The girls will race at 10 a.m., followed by the boys at 11 a.m.The top two teams and top 15 runners in both races will advance to state, scheduled to be held Nov. 7 in Jefferson City.In the final tune-up before the postseason, Warrenton competed at the Clayton Invitational Friday.Andrea Poole led the way, placing 16th overall in the girls race. She completed the 3.1-mile race in 21 minutes, 21 seconds.Mary Broker followed in 32nd in 22:18. Other runners for the Warriors were Madison Stevens (71st, 24:12), Emily Brunson (87th, 25:06), Emma Housewright (94th, 25:15) and Dayra Wilke (95th, 25:15).“Andrea is running really well, which we need going into districts,” Head Coach Jeremy Collins said. “Mary had a great race and she bounced back from a couple meets where she was running times that she wasn’t happy with. Madison and Emma probably had their best races of the year. When the kids go out and run really well and get a season best and get excited about, I can’t be any happier for them.”Collins feels his squad has a chance to advance past districts.“We need everyone from our first runner to our seventh runner to have a good race,” he said. “They are a great group and I am looking forward to seeing what they can do at districts.”As a team, Warrenton was ninth with 273 points out of 16 schools. Clayton won the team crown with 47 points, five ahead of runner-up Festus.Maddy Wiskirchen, of Festus, was the individual medalist in 20:00.33.In the boys race, Nathan Nordwald once again paced the Warriors by finishing in 16th in 18:04. Dylan Chandler followed in 25th in 18:14, while James Goetz placed 56th in 19:03. Others in the race were Matthew Hackmann (89th, 20:02), Ben Hoelscher (96th, 20:11) and Ryan Spoede (127th, 21:57).The squad has been banged up recently, Collins said. Randy McRoberts sat out Friday’s race with a hamstring injury and Goetz ran on an injured ankle.“Hopefully we can be as healthy as possible going into districts,” Collins said. “We are going into districts being as positive as we can and see if we can be in the top two.“Just like the girls team, we need everyone to step it up a little. This is a tough group of runners and I am excited to see what they can do at districts.”Warrenton placed seventh in the team standings out of 17 schools. The Warriors compiled 259 points. Festus won the team crown with 31 points and had the top individual as Noah Hunter finished the race in 16:46.46.In the junior varsity girls race, Susan Broker placed 54th in 25:22, while Corizma Blair was 82nd in 26:21. Warrenton did not have any runners in the boys race.Warriors
