The Warrenton offensive onslaught continues.
One week after scoring 40 points in a loss at Orchard Farm, the Warriors picked up where the team left off, routing visiting Winfield by a 41-0 score.
Junior tackle Daniel McChristy said that the men up front have paved the way for the Warriors’ recent successes.
“The men up front make the game and the coaches are on us constantly (to prove that),” McChristy said. “If we have a bad game, so does the whole team. It’s been a lot of fun seeing Eli score and we take pride in that.”
Warrenton took the opening kickoff down the field and opened the scoring. That happened when ‘Eli’ – running back Eli Schneider – found the end zone from three yards out with 9 minutes, 40 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Warriors added a second first-quarter score when Mason Sanders ran the ball in from 25 yards out with 4:58 left in the opening quarter to make the score 13-0.
Schneider’s second score of the game came with 5:48 left in the half when he found the end zone from 15 yards out.
Schneider credited those around him for his success.
“I give all the credit to my line and to the good lord above,” Schneider said. “It’s fun, but it’s not all me.”
The first-half scoring ended when Warrenton took the 27-0 lead with 1:07 left when Mason Sanders found Keegan Lehmkuhl from 23 yards out.
Schneider added a 34-yard scoring run on the final play of the third quarter to make it 34-0 Warrenton on his third rushing touchdown of the game.
Schneider’s fourth score of the game came with 8:01 to play to make it 41-0.
The loss dropped Winfield to 3-4 this season.
“It’s a whole lot of fun to win on Homecoming,” McChristy said. “This was a good game.”
The win was Warrenton’s fifth in a row over Winfield. Overall, Warrenton has won 16 of 18 games against Winfield, including a 40-15 win on the road last season.
Warrenton (4-3) will head on the road next week to take on St. Charles at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Overall, Warrenton has won 19 of the last 24 games, including the last seven straight over the Pirates.
Last year, Warrenton defeated St. Charles 40-20 at home.
“We’ve got to get back to work and take care of business,” Warrenton Coach Jason Koper said. “I haven’t looked at St. Charles a whole lot. This was a self-scouting week, trying to work on our things. We’ll look at them starting tomorrow."
