Warrenton renews funds for Agape, senior services

The city of Warrenton has renewed funding agreements with Agape Ministry and Warren County Council on Aging to support services the organizations provide for city residents and others.Aldermen voted 5-0 June 19 to renew funding for both organizations. Ward 1 Alderman Mike Shilharvey was absent and did not vote. Warrenton will provide $20,000 to Agape and up to $8,000 to the Council on Aging over the next year.Agape provides assistance for low-income individuals and families. The Council on Aging supports local senior citizens.As part of its agreement with Agape, the city requires the organization to provide services for any low-income resident of the city. Those services include food assistance, clothing, school supplies, medicine and assistance with overdue bills. Agape also provides referrals to other area service agencies, and for the past several years has provided emergency housing assistance for families at risk of homelessness.The Council on Aging receives funding from Warrenton to assist with the council’s meal program for homebound seniors. The city will pay $1.50 per meal, up to the maximum of $8,000 over the year.Warrenton Aldermen on June 19 also renewed agreements with the Warren County R-III School District to provide crossing guards, school resource officers and security services for the district.At the request of the school district, the city provides off duty police officers for school board meetings, sports events or other school activities.As part of the agreements with the city, the R-III school district pays a significant portion of the salaries for crossing guards and officers, who are all city employees.City of Warrenton logo
