The city of Warrenton’s recreational leagues will continue to be managed by Tournament Sports Management in 2016.The company will handle all details related to running the athletic programs, such as scheduling games and hiring game officials. It will keep all registration fees, according to the agreement.TSM is owned by Todd Hamlett, Wright City, and Michael Dare, Wentzville. This is the second full year the company will handle managing the rec leagues after the city eliminated its recreation department in 2014.“I think we’ve had some really good results last year and it’s in our benefit to continue,” said Ward 1 Alderman Karen Casserly.Registration is currently open for the baseball and softball summer leagues and youth and adult spring soccer leagues. The summer league teams will participate in the Lincoln County Athletic Association for the second consecutive year.“I think we have seen some positive results having (TSM) involved in our ball and soccer leagues,” Director of Operations/Finance Officer Terri Thorn said.Separate athletic complex use and concession provider agreements also were approved between the city and TSM.TSM will be able to use the complex for up to nine weekends, not to exceed 27 days, for tournaments. As part of the agreement, the city will be paid $500 per day for use of the complex on weekend tournaments and an additional $100 when tournament play starts on a Friday after 4 p.m.For soccer tournaments, the fee is $200 per day on the weekends.Daily fees will be pro-rated if play is unable to begin or forced to end early due to inclement weather, according to the agreement.Tournament dates that have already been selected are March 18-19, April 9-10, May 14-15, June 11-12, June 25-26 and July 9-10. Three fall dates have yet to be determined.Under the concession provider agreement, TSM will pay the city 10 percent of gross sales each week.Thorn noted the city usually lost money running the concession stand in prior years when it handled the operations. All three agreements, similar to what was in place in 2015, were unanimously approved at the Jan. 19 board of aldermen meeting.Sports
