The Warrenton Pool will continue to offer extended hours in 2016.Aldermen last Tuesday renewed the pool management contract with Midwest Pool Management. The pool will open May 28 and close Sept. 5. Hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from noon to 9 p.m. on Friday through Sunday. When the school year resumes in August, the pool will only be open on the weekends and holidays. The city will spend $93,643 for the Maryland Heights-based company to oversee daily operations of the pool. The fee consists of a $22,375 management fee and $71,268 to cover payroll. The fee is about $2,600 cheaper than 2015 and is lower since the calendar has fewer days for the pool to be open.Stormwater report to help prioritize projectsThe city will spend $15,000 for a stormwater report performed by Cochran Engineering to help evaluate existing conditions and prioritize future projects.Aldermen voted unanimously in favor of approving the proposed report at the Jan. 5 meeting. The city had budgeted for the project. The report will rate projects on a scale of 1-10 and itemize them for the next five years. Cochran will work with city staff on a budget so the projects can be completed when funds are available. Also at the Jan. 5 meeting, the board agreed to spend $3,035 to have Cochran provide cost estimates for storm water improvements in the area of Buckhorn Court and Robin Avenue. In other news• The board voted 5-1 to close South East Street between Meyer and Morsey Avenue following a request made from property owners live near the undeveloped street. The city also will obtain a utility easement and authorized a survey of the property.Ward 2 Alderman Damion Frederick had the lone vote opposing the move. He told The Record he has concerns with the city paying for the survey and felt the expenditure should be covered by the property owners requesting the street closure.• The planning meeting originally scheduled to be held Jan. 9 is being rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 17. It will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at city hall.• The board awarded a bid for concrete pad replacement at Dyer Park to KC Concrete, LLC, of Moscow Mills, for $6,690. The bid was the lowest of six. Other bids were submitted by Karrenbrock, New Melle, $8,780; John Rufkahr, Wentzville, $9,445; JS Aubuchon Concrete, Old Monroe, $9,445; K.J. Unnerstall, Washington, $12,170; and Byrne and Jones, St. Louis, $17,500.KC Concrete also will pour a new concrete pad at Binkley Woods Park for a gazebo for $1,225.• Stacy Blondin was appointed to fill an unexpired two-year term on the planning and zoning commission. The vacancy was created when Ron Dickey passed away in September.• Ryan Chadduck was rehired as a meter reader with a start date of Jan. 19. He will be paid $14.50 an hour.City of Warrenton
