A Montgomery City man faces drug charges after police say they found methamphetamine during an early-morning traffic stop in Warrenton.
Matthew Bryon Helderman was arrested Friday near Highway 47 and the Northwest Service Road around 1:35 a.m. He is charged with felony drug possession and misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and was also cited for failing to display license plates.
According to a probable cause statement, Helderman’s vehicle was missing a rear plate when a Warrenton officer pulled him over. The officer later learned Helderman was on probation for a prior drug case.
After Helderman refused consent to search, a Warren County Sheriff’s K-9 was brought to the scene. The dog alerted the vehicle, giving officers probable cause to search. Police reported finding a plastic bag containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
