Warrenton Players Named All-Conference

The Warrenton football team had eight players named to the GAC All-Conference team following a 2-8 season.Six players were chosen for the second team, while two players received first-team nods.Logan Shay— Senior was named to the first team as both an offensive and defensive lineman. He recorded 68 tackles and had a team-high seven sacks. He also helped the Warriors rush for over 1,500 yards.“He was our most consistent lineman,” said Coach Steve McDowell. “As a three-year starter, he was a very physical kid and caught the attention of the coaches with what he was able to accomplish.”George Wielms— Junior claimed a first-team spot as a linebacker. He collected a team-high 81 tackles and had four sacks and a fumble recovery.“He really anchored our defensive line. He’s our motor on defense and was responsible for much of our success.”Corey Eckenfels— Senior earned a second-team selection as a running back after rushing for 379 yards on 79 carries. He had a team-best nine touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry.“He really started getting a lot of carries in the mid to late part of the season. He did a tremendous job for us in the Power-I as a hard runner that ran low to the ground. I was very proud of what he could accomplish.”Zach Logan— Junior was chosen for the second team as a running back. He racked up 427 yards and four touchdowns on 108 carries.“When he switched over to running back he really responded well. He turned out some big games for us.”Ryan Bradshaw— Junior earned a second-team selection at wide receiver after grabbing a team-best 30 catches for 314 yards.“He has a good set of hands and is a possession type receiver. He did an outstanding job for us.”Austin Stroer — Senior was named to the second team as an offensive lineman. He returned to the team after taking a stint away from football.“It was good to have him back out this year. He did a very good job on the line for us and was an outstanding blocker.”Dylan Pyatt — Junior was chosen for the second team, after recording 23 tackles as an interior defensive lineman.“He’s a big kid that eats up a lot of real estate inside. He did a very good job of containing the middle and anchoring the defensive line.”Jacob Abel — Sophomore made an immediate impact at defensive back, claiming a second-team selection. He recorded 59 tackles and snagged two interceptions.“He got thrown in there the third or fourth game and ended up being one of our leading tacklers at the secondary position. He was very consistent all year long.”
