By Chris OrletManaging EditorThe board of the Warren County Farmers and Artisans Market voted Feb. 19 to take over the management of the Warrenton Farmers Market. The Warrenton market is now back in the hands of the board that ran the farmers market at the Warren County Fairgrounds until 2009. The Warren County Farmers and Artisans Market left Warrenton for Wright City four years ago in part due to a dispute over the city of Warrenton’s application of a state sales tax law.Last month the WCFAM and the city worked out the few remaining details, including a change to the city’s code that formerly required the market manager to provide a vendor list to the city 24 hours in advance of the market. The Warrenton market last season had a total of 20 vendors, but only an average of eight vendors would participate during the Saturday market. The recreation department tracked a total of 600 visitors all year.According to Market Master John Claire, there will be one fee for both markets. Vendor fees are $30 for the season. “One fee and you can work one or both markets,” he said. “Our daily setup rate was increased to $10 per day.”The Warren County Farmers and Artisans Market at Diekroeger Park in Wright City will continue to be held on Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. The Warrenton Market will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. under the pavilion on Walton St. behind city hall.Claire said opening day for the markets will be May 15 in Wright City and May 20 in Warrenton.Claire said there will be a grand opening event posted on Facebook for the start of the summer season.Warrenton market has new management
