Warrenton man to lead Turning Point board

Tim Churchill, of Warrenton, was installed as chair of the Turning Point board of directors Aug. 20.Turning Point provides advocacy services and emergency shelter to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence, sexual abuse or sex trafficking. The organization serves Warren, Franklin, Gasconade, Lincoln, Montgomery, and western St. Charles counties.Churchill was installed board chair and received the Board Service Award at the Turning Point Board of Directors’ annual meeting Aug. 20.Churchill joined Turning Point in 2016 and served as vice chair under Laura Adams. As chair, Churchill will play a leading role in fundraising activities, preside over board and executive committee meetings, appoint committee chairs and evaluate the performance of the organization’s executive director and board.Former director Adams is pleased with Churchill’s new place on the board.“His energy and ideas are an inspiration, and he demonstrates a natural ability to work with others on a common goal, exactly what being on a board is about,” Adams said. “We’re excited to see where his leadership will take the board and the organization.”“I look forward to continuing the vision and mission that Laura drove for the past three years and working with Executive Director Jolynn Houchins, the staff and the board of directors, to secure safe housing and advocacy services for those in our community with the greatest need,” Churchill said.Churchill has a career history in project and program management. He recently retired as program director for the office of government programs from Optum, a United Health Group company. Previously, he worked for 23 years in telecommunications with AT&T and spin-off companies Lucent Technologies and Avaya as area services director.The entire executive board was installed along with Churchill. They are Vice Chair Debbie Hinrichs, Marthasville, Secretary Carrie Gates, Innsbrook, and Treasurer Heather Haas, Warrenton.Churchill also was unanimously selected by the board directors to receive the organization’s annual Board Service Award. The award recognizes a board member or volunteer who has made outstanding contributions to Turning Point. Churchill was selected because of his work on a planned expansion project at the shelter. That work has included securing much of the funding and overseeing design plans for the upcoming project.
