A Warrenton man could serve up to 12 years in prison on three counts of statutory sodomy.Larry Steve Chidster, 41, pleaded guilty Oct. 18 to three felony counts of second-degree statutory sodomy and one count of second-degree child molestation, a misdemeanor.According to Warren County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Wright, Chidster received four years for the sodomy charges, to be served consecutively, for a total of 12 years. He must also spend 120 days in the sex offender assessment unit. Chidster also received 90 days for the molestation charge.“Under the circumstances I believe it was a good disposition,” said Wright. “Unfortuntely Mr. Chidster violated one of the most sacred trusts.”The case took nearly 2 1/2 years to come to trial, Wright said, because of changes in venue, judges and attorneys.According to Wright, after 100 days in the assessment unit, Department of Corrections personnel can recommend whether or not Chidster is released.“If the assessment recommends release and the judge agrees he can be released after 120 days,” Wright said. However, if the judge disagrees with the assessment there must be a hearing.Chidster was arrested in 2011, after a hotline call. The victim, then 16, told police Chidster had touched her inappropriately several times.Wright said that toward the end of the trial the victim, now an adult, had stopped cooperating with prosecutors.
