A 40-year-old Warrenton man was charged with holding up the Jonesburg State Bank in Warrenton Thursday.Michael Jon Kingsley, 40, was charged with first degree robbery, according to Warren County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Wright.Warrenton Police Chief Greg Houdyshell said Kingsley, wearing sunglasses, jeans and a brown Carhartt hoodie, entered the bank at 508 North Highway 47, at approximately 12:34 p.m. through the front door and walked directly to a teller window where he displayed a note. The note demanded money and indicated the suspect was armed. The teller handed Kingsley an undetermined amount of cash. Among the bills were bills that the bank tracks by serial numbers, Wright said.Kingsley walked out the front door and climbed into a late-model silver-colored Hyundai Sante Fe, said Houdyshell. The Hyundai left the scene north through the alley at the rear of the bank and turned north on Highway 47 and east on I-70.“Surrounding police departments were notified to be on the lookout for a silver Hyundai,” Houdyshell said. About ten minutes later a vehicle matching the description was seen traveling eastbound on I-70 through Wright City.According to Wright City Police Sgt. Tim Mathews, Wright City police officer Jeff Catron was observing vehicles on I-70 and followed the silver Hyundai and ran the license plates which did not match the vehicle. At that point Caton initiated a traffic stop. When Kingsley did not immediately stop his vehicle, Catron initiated pursuit.“The suspect's Santa Fe exited at Wentzville Parkway and ran into traffic congestion. At that point the suspect pulled over onto the shoulder,” said Mathews.Mathews said the Kingsley did not resist arrest. He said Kingsley's pockets were stuffed with cash, but police did not find a weapon during a body search.Mathews praised the police work of officer Catron. “There were four different descriptions of the suspect vehicle, including one that said the vehicle had a Missouri plate and we were told he was headed north on Highway 47,” Mathews said. “Officer Catron took his own initiative and followed his instincts and followed a vehicle with out-of-state plates that only slightly resembled the description. He is to be commended.”Kingsley is being held on $250,000 cash only bond.
