A rural Warrenton man has been charged with first-degree child molestation in connection with an incident involving an 8-year-old girl in 2023.
The felony charge was filed Friday, Aug. 28, against Jedidiah Burney, who admitted to the crime the previous day, according to a probable cause statement.
The charge stems from an incident that took place at some point between Jan. 9 and Jan. 16, 2023, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, when the victim’s parents were on a cruise to the Bahamas and she was staying temporarily at a residence with relatives, which Burney also had access to.
Burney touched the girl inappropriately under her clothes “as she was asleep in the basement,” according to the probable cause statement, “for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of the defendant,” according to the felony complaint in the case.
Burney, born in 2003, is being held without bond at the Warren County Jail.
