Warrenton man charged with attempted rape

Warrenton resident Matthew S. Rosner Sr. is in jail on charges of first-degree attempted rape and first-degree burglary.The crimes reportedly occurred at a home on East Booneslick Road in Warrenton around 1 a.m. Aug. 30.The victim in the investigation told police she was woken by Rosner, who told her he had entered through a window and was there to rape her, according to a report from the Warrenton Police Department. The victim reportedly stated that Rosner was completely nude.Rosner allegedly pushed the victim down and forcibly began to remove her clothes, while she struggled to get away and retrieve her phone, according to the report. The victim told police Rosner took her phone and broke it before she could make a call.However, Warrenton police received a disturbance call from the area of the home, and an officer located Rosner nearby. Rosner allegedly stated he had ingested a hallucinogenic drug called mescaline and entered the residence with the intent of raping the victim, according to the police report.Police Chief Larry Ellard said the department is waiting on the results of lab tests to determine what, if any, controlled substances Rosner might have taken.The victim was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Lake Saint Louis, where an evaluation identified head trauma as well as bruising in multiple places on her body, according to the police report.Rosner is being held at the Warren County Jail in lieu of a $150,000, cash-only bond, according to online court records. He had an arraignment set for Sept. 6 at the Warren County Circuit Court.If Rosner is found guilty of the crimes, he would face a minimum sentence of five years in prison for attempted rape and five years for the burglary, and could be sentenced to a longer term.Matthew Rosner
