Warrenton man accused in assault of woman

Warrenton police arrested a suspected intoxicated man May 1 after he allegedly assaulted a woman.Corey Hemphill, 31, Warrenton, is charged with second-degree domestic assault, a Class D felony. He is being held at the Warren County Jail on a $10,000 bond, with an arraignment set for May 15 in Warren County Associate Circuit Court.Hemphill allegedly choked a woman and pushed her to the ground at his apartment on Cordova Court, according to police. The victim told police Hemphill also pushed her against a vehicle and slapped her across the face, before she pushed him away. There was a further altercation inside the apartment when the woman attempted to retrieve her belongings and leave, police said.Officers who responded to the alleged assault reported that Hemphill appeared to be intoxicated and failed to listen to verbal commands. The victim had red marks and bruising on her neck, as well as bruising or swelling on other areas of her body.According to police, the victim stated the incident began when Hemphill wanted to go buy illegal drugs.Hemphill was charged with assault last year after a conflict with Warrenton police officers. During a domestic disturbance call at the 700 block of Ashland Road, Hemphill allegedly resisted arrest, during which an officer’s arm was injured. Hemphill pleaded guilty to assault against a law enforcement officer and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation.
