The Warrenton football team began the season with a 41-20 loss to St. Dominic on Friday. The visiting Crusaders running game proved to be overwhelming, as the physicality of the game swayed in St. Dominic's favor. The Warriors had the momentum in the early going, recovering a fumble on St. Dominic's opening drive. Warrenton marched down the field on a variety of plays, with senior quarterback T.J. Lafaver eventually scoring on a 15-yard run. The Crusaders began to take control with 6:04 remaining in the first quarter, going ahead 13-7 by the end of the period. St. Dominic added another rushing touchdown with 9:34 left in the half. Warrenton countered with an 11-yard touchdown strike from Lafaver to senior Trevor Bradshaw with 3:03 remaining, trailing 20-14 at the half. St. Dominic continued to pound the ball in the second half, going ahead 41-14, all on rushing plays. Lafaver scored again on a six-yard run as time expired in the fourth quarter. He finished 15 of 28 with 138 yards, throwing one touchdown to two interceptions. WRIGHT CITY DROPS ROAD CONTEST The Wright City football team opened the season with a 24-13 loss at Trinity High School. The Wildcats led 10-0 at the end of the first quarter and 10-7 at halftime.
