The ban on selling fireworks in Warrenton has been lifted.The board of aldermen voted unanimously at its May 3 meeting to approve a new ordinance allowing firework sales in the city.The city will issue permits for temporary fireworks stands and will require a city business license. Applications must be submitted by June 1 of each year.The permit fee for a fireworks stand will be $500.Stands will be restricted to properties zoned for commercial or industrial use and must be at least 100 feet from any temporary or permanent building and at least 200 feet from any residence or housing unit.In addition, the permit will not be valid for more than 60 days and can only be used between May 6-July 10. Fireworks can be sold only from June 20 to July 10.The city also will require a cash deposit, irrevocable letter of credit or a surety bond in the amount of $10,000 to ensure compliance with the ordinance.Fireworks can currently be sold in Truesdale, Wright City and unincorporated Warren County.Aldermen previously noted that this year will be a trial run for the ordinance and changes could be made for the following year.In March, aldermen agreed to restrict the setting off of fireworks to the period between 5 and 10 p.m. only on July 4.Fireworks
