Warrenton High School confirmed several changes within its athletic department on Thursday, following an emergency school board meeting held earlier in the week. Among them is the hiring of both a new head boys basketball coach and head girls volleyball coach. Jim Chandler, who was recently hired as the new R-III superintendent, will replace Trevor Hibbs as the varsity basketball coach. Hibbs resigned after two seasons. Chandler will take over on an interim basis until the job is opened for candidacy again next March. Newly-hired activities director Bobby Spoonster says the district had just one in-house candidate and limited teaching positions to offer in the hiring process. Spoonster also announced that Kristen Van Horn, a teacher at Black Hawk Middle School, has been hired as the varsity volleyball coach. She served an assistant to her predecessor, Hahn Nguyen, during the 2012-13 season. See next week's edition of The Record for a full story.
