By Janine DavisRecord Staff WriterRain or shine, more than 220 Warrenton High School seniors will receive their diplomas Saturday evening, May 17.The school’s graduation ceremonies will be held outside at the athletic field starting at 7 p.m.In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved inside the gymnasium starting at 7:30 p.m., with tickets required.“We are hoping for good weather for our kids and their families,” said Principal Jeremy Way.Framing the diploma ceremony will be music from the band and choir, along with a keynote speech from 2007 Warrenton High School graduate Alex Garcia, who is working in Hollywood entertainment, said Way. Senior speeches will be given by Luke Hawley and Maddy Sutherland.Way said that this year’s seniors have been offered around $1.2 million in scholarships, with about $75,000 coming from community contributors.“Our community does a great job in supporting our kids in going on with their education,” said Way.The baccalaureate service is planned for this Thursday, May 15, at 7 p.m. in the high school commons.Way said that if weather looks risky for Saturday evening, district leaders will do a SchoolReach call around noon to 1 p.m. that day to notify students and families. Just in case, he said, students will be given tickets for indoor ceremonies at graduation practice on Thursday.Warrenton High School
