Warrenton Grad Wins Silver Medal at FCCLA Conference

Corizma Blair, a 2016 graduate of Warrenton High School, attended the National FCCLA Conference in San Diego, Calif., July 2-8 to represent Missouri.There were 4,500 students competing from all over the United States.Blair competed in the fashion construction division against more than 100 competitors. She was award the silver medal.Blair plans on pursuing a degree in psychology and becoming a psychiatrist. She uses her fashion skills to create fashion for her relatives and family. She looks forward to making clothing for her own children some day.FCCLA is designed to promote growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education.FCCLA is the only in-school organization with the family as its central focus. It is a career and technical student organization that function an integral part of the family and consumer sciences curriculum and operates within the school system. It provides opportunities for active participation at the local, state and national levels.Blair attended with her instructor, Judith Folsom, and other FCCLA members Hayley Boegemann, Deanna Martin and Zaira Ortega.They raised $13,000 over the course of the school year selling homemade burritos, which paid for 10 students to attend the state competition at the Lake of the Ozarks and the national competition in San Diego.This provided an opportunity to travel and experience many firsts: air travel, seeing and swimming in the ocean, riding a ferry and trolley, and making friends with students from all over the United States.
