Travis Toebben’s 3-over 37 Friday wasn’t enough to lead Warrenton to a win over Gateway Athletic Conference North rival St. Charles, but the freshman walked off the course with the lowest round of the afternoon.“Considering he is a freshman, I was really impressed with how Travis played on Friday,” Warrenton Head Coach Aaron Jinkerson said. “St. Charles has two really good golfers at the top of their lineup, and Travis had the low round for the day.”Toebben birdied his first hole and finished with a par or better on five of nine holes without shooting a double bogey.“He’s learned to overcome the big score,” Jinkerson said. “Travis has really been consistent with his scores this year in all of his matches.”The Warriors battled fast greens all afternoon, which Jinkerson thinks will help in the coming week.“The course was in really good condition,” he said. “The greens were quick, and that was a little surprising. The speed of the greens will help us prepare for districts.”Tanner Burns finished second for Warrenton with a 7-over 41, and Dillon Keeven finished with a 10-over 44.Friday’s result knocked Warrenton out of the GAC North title hunt, but Toebben, Burns and Keeven could still land on the all-conference team depending on Thursday’s GAC North Tournament at the Links of Dardenne.“The discussion about being all-conference didn’t start until our bus ride home from St. Charles,” Jinkerson said. “I would put their chances pretty high at landing a spot on the all-conference team, but they will have to compete against some really good golfers to do so.”The Warriors compete in the Class 3, District 4 Tournament Tuesday at Bogey Hills Country Club.“After our practice round at Bogey Hills on Friday, that will mean the kids have played the course three different times this season,” Jinkerson said. “Hopefully that will put them ahead of the competition at Districts.”.EYING HIS PUTT — Dillon Keeven prepares for a putt during the Warrenton Invitational April 13.
