The Warrenton golf team opened its season on Monday in the Bogey Hills Tournament, finishing fourth out of nine teams.The Warriors shot a 355, while frontrunner O’Fallon Christian recorded a 321.St. Charles took second, and Whitfield placed third.“That’s a good tough course for us to play right off the bat,” said Coach Rich Barton. “Weather conditions were windy and chilly, so we had to battle the elements, which will pay off for us somewhere down the road.”Senior Ethan Luecke paced the Warriors with a 79, placing fourth as an individual.“Ethan was struggling early but battled back to finish strong,” said Barton.Chase Nelson shot an 86 in the No. 2 spot.“Chase hit a couple out of bounds, but I think he’ll rebound in a positive manner,” said Barton. “He needs to start believing in himself a little more and finding himself amongst the leaders.”Curtis Bauer carded a 90 for the Warriors, while Luke Hawley recorded a 100.Zac Ragan finished out the varsity scoring with a 102.“I was proud of the way the kids battled,” said Barton. “We set high standards for ourselves, and I know some of them were disappointed, but from a coach’s standpoint, I was very happy with their efforts.”Additionally, on Tuesday the Warrenton junior varsity team shot a 375 to place fifth out of seven teams at Wolf Hollow.
