While the Warrenton girls’ soccer team may have earned just a single win this season, it's not as if the efforts of the players went unnoticed.
A pair of Warriors made the Gateway Athletic Conference (GAC) North all-conference second team and four were named as all-district players from Class 3 District 4.
Defender and senior captain Alyssa Adams made the team, as did senior three-year captain and midfielder Emma Duncan.
“The awards are all very well deserved,” Warrenton Coach Courtney Nenninger said. “Emma has been a captain since her sophomore year and is a workhorse. Alyssa plays hard every game and has made tremendous progress from her sophomore year to now.”
Four Warriors earned the all-district nod. Senior captain and goalkeeper Autumn Heard and Adams earned first-team selections, while Duncan and senior Audrey Lombardo were recognized as honorable mention.
“Audrey is a sneaky player who plays tough and always seems to come out of nowhere with big saves on defense,” Nenninger said. “Autumn has been our most versatile player, starting as a forward her freshman year and ending her senior season as a goalkeeper.”
Heard and Duncan each scored goals in the team’s lone win – a 6-0 victory over Mexico on April 13.
For her part, seeing the reward of having other coaches recognize her hard work made a tough season more worthwhile, Heard said.
“It’s a recognition of all the hard work and dedication I put in for this sport,” Heard said. “It’s a huge honor and just motivates me to keep pushing myself. Play like you love it, even on the days you are tired, exhausted, and stressed. It’ll push you far, just like it has paid off for me.”
