The Warrenton Fire Protection District will hold town hall meetings at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 21, and Saturday, July 28, at its fire station at 606 Fairgrounds Road in Warrenton.
The topic is Proposition Fire Safety, a proposed tax increase that will appear on the Aug. 7 ballot.
The public is invited to join the discussion and ask questions at the town hall meetings.
The ballot reads:
“Shall the Board of Directors of the Warrenton Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than 37 cents on the $100 assessed valuation to provide funds for the support of the District? The District intends to use the proceeds for the purpose of providing quality emergency services to the community by keeping current staffing levels, maintaining all four fire stations within the District, acquiring needed equipment, hiring additional firefighters, and ensuring access to appropriate training for its staff.”
Three fire districts that serve parts of Warren County are asking for tax increases next month. In addition to Warrenton Fire Protection District, Hawk Point Fire Protection District and Wright City Fire Protection District each have propositions on the August ballot.
Voters passed a proposed tax increase for the Marthasville Community Ambulance District in April. Also in April, voters turned down two proposals for tax increases for the Wright City Fire Protection District.
