On June 1, the Warrenton FFA chapter hosted an open jackpot show for 4-H and FFA exhibitors to bring their livestock projects to the Warren County Fairgrounds in hopes of placing well enough to receive some of the $1,800 prize money that was up for grabs. Market lambs, market hogs, market heifers and steers were evaluated by judge Davey Robinson, of Bowling Green. The show was organized by Warrenton FFA members who volunteered to serve on the jackpot show committee. Many members of this committee worked very hard and secured sponsorship money from area business. Platinum sponsors were Allen Auction and Real Estate, Cargill Inc., Big Creek 4-H Club, Owenby Transportation, Warren County Cattlemen, WW Construction, and First Community State Bank; gold sponsors were Backes and Toelke Agri Products, FCS Financial, Friendens United Church of Christ, MFA Coop Association No. 2, Quality Hydrostatic Inc., Ryan Family Farm, and T.S. Banze Construction, Inc; silver sponsors were Norma Abel, and Warrenton Tire and Muffler; and bronze sponsors were Blue Flame Gas Co., Heritage Community State Bank, Jonesburg State Bank, Service Enterprise Doors LLC, Farmers Elevatator-Hawk Point, and Shepard Transmission Co. Other FFA members volunteered to complete various tasks associated with the event. This year there were 12 head of market lambs, 18 head of cattle, and 22 hogs exhibited at the jackpot show. The following exhibitors received prize money on Sunday afternoon: Lambs — first, Jonah Lasater of Elsberry; second, James Lasater of Elsberry; third, Jonah Lasater of Elsberry. Cattle — first, Taylor Eisenbath of Silex; second, Madeline Neil of Shelbyville; third, Clayton Schowe of Warrenton. Hogs — first, Ty Graves of Ewing; second, Abby Raines of Wright City; third, Ty Graves of Ewing. The objective of the Warrenton FFA Jackpot Show is to raise funds for upcoming FFA events and too provide youth exhibitors an opportunity to show their livestock projects and practice their showmanship skills before their respective county fair or state fair show occurs. The FFA chapter hopes to host a much larger jackpot show next summer. Submitted by Diane Miederhoff, Warrenton FFA adviser
