A resilient third-quarter comeback fell short for the Warrenton girls basketball team during its 42-30 loss to No. 1 Duchesne in the championship game of the Warriors' Winter Warmup. It was Warrenton's first appearance in the title game of its host tournament, and the Warriors quickly found themselves facing a heavy deficit, falling behind 11-3.Duchesne pushed ahead by 15 in the second period and led 28-16 at halftime. The Warriors came charging back in the third quarter, climbing to within four on a three-pointer by freshman Ashtyn Dixon.Duchesne's crisp passing and deliberately slow possessions led to high-percentage looks for the Pioneers, on which they converted. The defending champions pulled back ahead by 13 and sustained their advantage the remainder of the way. Duchesne held Warrenton to just one basket the entire fourth quarter.Sophomore Jenny Jansen led the way with 12 points.Senior Hannah Sutton scored six, all in the first quarter. She crossed the 1,000-point career mark on a free throw. The Warriors are scheduled to meet Union on Monday.WARRENTON FALLS IN TITLE GAMEDerrick Forsythe photo.
