Warrenton Elks Lodge will host a Christmas Day dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.The event, which is open to all ages, will offer a meal and activities including penny bingo.Warrenton Elks Lodge No. 2662 is located at 1101 E. Veterans Memorial Parkway.A spokesperson for the Warrenton Elks Lodge, Paula Milenkovic, said this is an annual event. The group is planning to prepare turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, beans with bread, and cranberry jelly.“It’s all free. There’s no cost for the meal or anything,” Milenkovic said. “We take contributions from Warrenton Elks Lodge members and they volunteer to help with the event.”She said in previous years the event has prepared about 200 meals. Each year the meals are served at the Elks Lodge and delivered to homes by request. The Elks Lodge is taking requests now for home deliveries.“We’ll just keep taking the requests. (Requests for deliveries) need to be in by Dec. 23. Otherwise, just come in. You can decide Christmas morning and go up there for dinner,” Milenkovic said.To request a delivered dinner call the Elks Lodge at 636-456-2662 or sign up at the Warren County Senior Center, 501 Ashland Ave., Warrenton, by Sunday, Dec. 23. The Warren County Senior Center can be reached at 636-456-3379 or wcseniorcenter74@gmail.com.Christmas Dinner at the Elks is not affiliated with the senior center, but people who usually are served meals during the week at the Warren County Senior Center may benefit from the holiday event at the Warrenton Elks Lodge. The senior center delivers 70-80 meals during the week and serves 25 more meals to visitors at the center each week. The center and the Meals on Wheels delivery program will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.“We are closed those four days, but if people need assistance, they can let us know and we’ll get them shelf meals,” said Sheryl Stefanski, executive director for the Warren County Senior Center. She explained that shelf meals are nonperishable food items such as cans of soup, crackers, peanut butter, boxes of macaroni and cheese.“Shelf items are donated. They are not paid for by the senior center,” Stefanski said. She said shelf meals are collected to be given to clients in advance of holidays or bad weather.“We’ve had six individuals on our delivery route request shelf meals (for Christmas Day) so far,” she said. She said the Elks Lodge offers senior center clients an alternative for a meal delivery or a place to spend Christmas.Elks Lodge
