The Warrenton Lady Warriors dropped a home game to St. Charles High School last week.
Warrenton (3-10) lost to St. Charles (10-3-1) 8-0.
After holding St. Charles to three goals in the first 30 minutes of the first half, the Lady Warriors surrendered three goals in the last 10 minutes of the half. They surrendered two goals in the first two minutes of the second half to end the game.
Warrenton goalie Emily Beumel recorded 16 saves.
The Lady Warriors squared off against St. Charles without four starters, three of which were defenders.
“As it stands right now, I have four varsity starters that were out,” Warrenton coach Amy Wargowsky said after last week’s game. “So I mean you have four of 11 that normally start and three are defensive players, it’s going to make it difficult.”
She stressed the quality of St. Charles’ team. They finished second in state last year and beat defending conference champion Orchard Farm earlier this season.
Wargowsky does believe the experience gained by some of Warrenton’s reserves can be beneficial down the road.
“We always say to them too to watch what the other team does. You know, if you’re not playing, watch what they do because obviously they’re good so they do things well,” Wargowsky said. “And they do them right. So and yes, there’s no mistakes, there’s just learning opportunities. Or I’d say you make a mistake, it’s fine. Learn from it. Don’t make it again.”
Warrenton was scheduled to face St. Clair yesterday. They are scheduled to host Fort Zumwalt East today. Gametime is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. They will play at Wright City Monday. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
