Record Managing EditorWarrenton city officials are exploring a possible future project to build additional sidewalks and add lighting along a stretch of Highway 47.The city has contracted with Cochran Engineering to determine if enough room exists on the east side of the highway between between Veterans Memorial Parkway and the railroad overpass for the sidewalks and lighting. It is the city’s intent for the project to match the existing decorative lighting and sidewalks on the west side of Highway 47.Officials believe the project would be a welcome sight for travelers coming through the area.“If we had the same look on both sides, I think it would make a statement,” Ward 2 Alderman Gary Auch said.Engineering for the project will initially cost $8,220, with the fee increasing by an additional $11,950 for design if there is sufficient right of way.The city also is contracting with Cochran for engineering work on four other projects. The total cost for all engineering work is $41,760. Aldermen voted unanimously to proceed with the proposed projects at the Jan. 13 meeting. The city also is having Cochran provide engineering for a possible new sidewalk on Wabash Avenue. Engineers will determine if a sidewalk can be built on the north side of the street between Steinhagen Road and where the Warrenton and Truesdale city limits meet.Other projects that Cochran has been hired to provide engineering for include:• upgrading Moccasin Drive, located north of Whispering Pine Lane, to a hard-surface road;• updating the supervised program and resubmitting it to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for a five-year extension of the city’s permit; and• upgrading from a 6-inch to a 12-inch water main and connecting it to existing mains on both sides of the railroad on Middletown Road.Engineering for sewer project increases by $34,850Also at the Jan. 13 meeting, aldermen approved two change orders related to engineering services for the opening phase of improvements to the city’s sewer system. The engineering fee with Gonzalez Companies, LLC, will increase $34,850, from $1,143,205 to $1,178,055. The change orders that were approved are $25,365 for an anti-degradation study that is required by DNR and $9,485 for additional geotechnical services. The board also has agreed to spend $29,944 for Gonzalez Companies to design a new access road and creek crossing for the wastewater treatment plant and $26,000 for sanitary sewer flow monitoring services. The monitoring will include five flow monitors and one rain gauge for a 60-day period.City exploring additional Hwy. 47 sidewalks, lighting
