Warrenton boys place 12th at Forest Park

By Tim SchmidtRecord Managing EditorThe Warrenton boys cross country team posted a strong showing with a 12th-place finish out of 32 teams Saturday at the Forest Park Festival.In one of the largest meets the Warriors will compete in this fall, they compiled 396 points, led by Nathan Nordwald who finished 61st. Nordwald ran the 3.1-mile race in 18 minutes, 11 seconds.The trio of James Goetz (79th, 18:31), Randy McRoberts (81st, 18:32) and Dylan Chandler (86th, 18:34) finished around the same time.Others running in the race for Warrenton were Matthew Hackmann (145th, 19:23) and Ben Hoelscher (192nd, 20:11).Herculaneum won the team crown in the Gold Division with 166 points. Grain Valley was runner-up with 169 points. Mexico’s Malik Holman captured individual honors with a 16:36.On the girls side, Warrenton competed without returning all-state qualifier Mary Broker. In her absence, Andrea Poole ran a 22:06 to place 57th. Others in the race were Meagan Sanders (128th, 23:50), Dayra Wilke (145th, 24:02) and Maddie Stevens (185th, 25:38).Three meets into the season, Warrenton Head Coach Jeremy Collins is pleased with the early progress being made.“Everyone improved on their times from last week,” he said. “That is what we are looking for is times to drop regardless of what course we are running on. For the boys to place 12th in the division they were in was fantastic. It should give us a lot of confidence going into our future meets. We had a lot of girls really improve on their times and they showed how tough they ran today.”Warrenton returns to action this Saturday at the Fulton Invitational.JV resultsThe Warrenton junior varsity boys and girls also competed at Forest Park.The boys squad was led by Michael Hackmann who ran a 22:09 to place 182nd. Other finishers for the Warriors were Ryan Spoede (218th, 22:37), Ben Chilson (323rd, 24:01), Brendan McBride (376th, 24:55) and Brady Weir (463rd, 28:18.The girls’ lone runner was Emma Housewright, who placed 118th out of 349 runners with a 26:04.
