The Warrenton boys basketball team nearly pulled off an upset of GAC counterpart St. Charles West on Wednesday, falling 55-54 after a desperation three-pointer missed on the final possession.The Warriors managed to hang with the traditional basketball power, despite losing by 36 in the previous meeting on Feb. 2.Warrenton got out to an 8-point lead in the second quarter, before St. Charles West rallied to tie the contest at 28-28 by halftime.West moved ahead by seven in the third period, as the Warriors became limited in substitutionsA three-pointer by senior Alec Tonioli pulled Warrenton to within two with 10 seconds remaining but his trey to tie the game on the last trip down the court came up short.Senior Craig Vardiman got the putback, capping off a tremendous night for himself with 26 points and 34 rebounds.Tonioli finished with 14 points.VARDIMAN GRABS 34 REBOUNDS IN DEFEATDerrick Forsythe photo.
