The Warrenton baseball team celebrated Senior Night in style on Tuesday.
Hosting Bowling Green, Warrenton (13-13) earned the 5-3 victory.
With the game tied at three in the sixth inning, the Warriors took the lead on a fielder’s choice by Jake Kirkpatrick and an RBI single by Tate Augler after Bowling Green had tied the game.
Warrenton took an initial lead on a first-inning RBI double by Kirkpatrick, who scored Ric Standley. Kirkpatrick then scored on an error to move the home team out to a 2-0 lead.
Warrenton added a fourth-inning run to increase the lead to three runs before Bowling Green managed to tie the score.
The offense was led on Thursday by Standley, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base, and Kirkpatrick, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of RBI.
Standley closed out the game in the seventh inning to earn the win. He earned the win in relief of Keeton Young.
“Keeton went a strong five innings,” Warrenton Coach Eric Burle said. “He only gave up one run on four hits.”
Warrenton will close the regular season with a 4:15 p.m. game on Thursday at home against Fort Zumwalt North.
After that, the Warriors will open Class 5 District 4 tournament play at St. Dominic as the No. 3 seed. Warrenton will play Fort Zumwalt South at 10:30 on Monday at St. Dominic.
WRIGHT CITY GIRLS SOCCER ROLLS – The offensive onslaught at the Hazelwood Central Tournament continues for the Wright City girls’ soccer team.
One day after opening the event by blanking Hancock, Wright City (15-5) smashed McCluer 8-0 on Tuesday.
Goals came from Haley Elsenrath, who had four, Norma Diego, Makenzie Holloway, Madison Goodman and Olivia Wilson.
Assists came from Ada Ferrell and Raelynn Smith, who each had a pair, Sandy Lopez-Luna, Goodman and Elsenrath.
Marli Burkhardt earned the shutout win in goal.
Wright City will close group play tonight against Hazelwood East at 5:45 p.m. A win would guarantee the team a spot in the tournament championship game at 7 p.m. on Friday.
After that, the Wildcats will open district play in the Class 2 District 4 event at Borgia as the No 3 seed. The teams are slated to play at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Earlier this season, Wright City downed Mexico 5-1 on March 30.
WARRENTON VOLLEYBALL HEADS TO DISTRICT SEMIFINAL – Fresh off guaranteeing itself a .500 finish, the Warrenton boys volleyball team will try to pull off an upset tonight.
In the Warriors’ Class 1 District 5 semifinal, Warrenton (11-10-1) will take on top-seed and host St. Dominic at 6 p.m.
