A project to build additional sidewalks and add lighting along a stretch of Highway 47 will cost $227,260.20.Warrenton aldermen awarded the contract for the work to Meyer Electric Company at their March 15 meeting.The new sidewalks and lighting will be added on the east side of Highway 47 between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Ashland Street. It will match the existing decorative lighting and sidewalks on the west side of Highway 47.Work is expected to start in the middle of April or early May, according to engineers.“This will be exciting for our community,” Ward 1 Alderman Karen Casserly said. “This will really look nice.”Other bids were submitted by L. Keely Construction ($241,262), B&P Patterson, LLC ($277,997), CE Contracting, Inc. ($288,956), TS Banze Construction ($2990,596.40) and Cannon General Contracting ($414,880.20).Cochran Engineering will provide construction administration services for an additional $17,559. That amount also was approved by a 4-0 vote of the board. Ward 2 Alderman Gary Auch was absent from the March 15 meeting.The city has budgeted $350,400 for the project.Other news• The city is moving forward with several projects that have an estimated cost of $33,343.60 which is $856.40 under the budgeted amount. The upcoming work includes spending $18,414 for asphalting the Binkley Woods Park parking lot, $5,440 for storm water improvements on Veterans Memorial Parkway between Powell and Louis streets, $5,083.60 to replace culverts at Spector Lake and Binkley Woods Park, and $4,406 to build a sidewalk on Wabash between Steinhagen and Roosevelt.Also, the board agreed to spend $18,023.40 for a temporary gravel road at the treatment plant. Further work will be done on the road as part of the ongoing sewer improvement project. The city has budgeted $56,100 for the roadwork.• The city will spend $49,990 as part of the Moccasin Drive improvement project, with an additional $5,665 to be spent on construction administration services with Cochran Engineering. The project bid was awarded to TS Banze Construction, the lowest of six bids. Other bids were receive from KJU, Inc. ($68,975), Lamke Trenching and Excavating ($70,785), Cannon General Contracting ($71,014.50), B&P Patterson, LLC ($82,925) and Krupp Construction ($88,898).• A bid for a new telephone system was awarded to Americom Imaging Systems, Inc., of St. Louis, for $25,249, the lowest of five received. A sixth proposal was disqualified for not meeting bid specs. The other bids ranged from $30,829.50 to $51,566.17. The city had budgeted $20,000 for the purchase.• A portable toilet bid, for the city’s parks and Fall Festival, was awarded to O’Fallon Sewer Service for $1,650. Two other bids were received from B&J Septic, Silex, $2,192; and R&R Sanitation, St. Peters, $2,571.• A revised plan for off-site sewers was approved by a 4-0 vote related to the Harbor Place, a residential care facility under construction at 1054 Highway 47.• A special event permit was issued to the Warrenton High School Band Boosters to hold a mud bog on Saturday, May 7. The fundraiser will start at noon. The planning and zoning recommend approval at its last meeting March 3.City of Warrenton
