A public meeting to release the findings of an audit of the city of Warrenton is set for Tuesday, October 8, at 6 p.m. at Warrenton City Hall.Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich will review the audit's findings and offer recommendations and take questions from the public, said Spence Jackson, a spokesman for the Missouri State Auditor's Office.State officials met with Warrenton city officials Aug. 6 in a closed meeting to discuss the findings of the audit. Warrenton officials sent their response to the audit back to Jefferson City on Aug. 21.The petition for the audit stems from residents’ concerns over two employee contracts that were provided to Warrenton Police Chief Greg Houdyshell and Director of Operations/Finance Officer Terri Thorn by the Warrenton Board of Alderman at the request of outgoing Mayor Greg Costello in April 2012.Residents and city employees have questioned the fairness of only giving contracts to two employees.Houdyshell and Thorn volunteered to give up the contracts in letters written to the board which were read at the July 16 board of aldermen meeting. The board voted to draft an ordinance at the same meeting that would eliminate the contracts when they expire in April 2014.Resident Stan Shelton gathered 533 signatures on a petition and requested the audit last August.According to state statute, an audit can be requested if 10 percent of citizens who voted in the last gubernatorial election sign the petition requesting the audit.Warrenton Audit to be Made Public at Oct. 8 Meeting
