Warrenton approves consent agenda changes

The Warrenton Board of Aldermen approved changes to the consent agenda originally proposed by Alderman Gary Auch. Before approving the changes, the board could vote to forego having a department head come before them for a monthly update.“The issue was, do we want to have each report presented by a department head, because it encourages conversation or do we just want to approve all of the reports, with the minutes, at one time?” Auch said.Auch said his interest in bringing department reports out of the consent agenda began when he noticed a recent report by Warrenton Police Chief Greg Houdyshell stated the department’s 911 calls in April and May were down from the same two months in 2015.“I noticed the water we’re using out of the wells were also down for a significant period of time,” Auch said. “I figured it would bring up conversation and be something you did not normally get to see if you are reading it by yourself.”Mayor Eric Schleuter said Auch is not alone in his request to have department heads come before the council. Alderman Karen Casserly said she fully supports Auch’s suggestions.“I know sometimes our meetings got extremely mundane, but if we approach it to where the department heads point out two or three of the most important things, then it would be good for the board, especially a new board,” Casserly said.Casserly made the motion to return the reports to the agenda and only approve board meeting and work session minutes in the consent agenda, which unanimously passed. The board also:• Approved lifting limits on the size of sign a business could have in its window. • Heard recommendations from the Tourism Department.• Received a reminder from City Finance Officer Terri Thorn regarding a June 14 budget workshop.City of Warrenton
