The Warrenton Board of Alderman unanimously approved a bid of $139,800 from Keeley Construction Group Inc. for the Powell Street water main extension project.
During its Sept. 2 meeting, Public Works Director Guy Gevers recommended that the aldermen approve the bid, although he noted that the bid, the lowest of six on the project, was $28,180 over the budgeted amount of $111,620 for the project. Gevers said money from the tower painting project could be allocated to the Powell Street project because the painting project would not be able to be completed this year. The tower can’t be shut down until the city completes a new well, which will take an additional 240 days.
Gevers said the project involves a 12-inch water main from the water tower to run into a 12-inch highway bore at the end of Powell Street.
Mayor Eric Schleuter questioned what appeared to be two separate bids in the bid packet from Bommarito Construction, one for $173,830 and one for $182,483.10. After some discussion, City Administrator Brandie Walters said one of the two Bommarito bids had been mislabeled. The board voted to approve the bid from Keeley, but Schleuter asked that the bid packet be corrected with the correct name of the missing company.
