The Warrenton Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday, July 21, to do away with the city’s downtown committee. The board discussed replacing it with a restructured organization that they hope will serve the community’s needs better.
Alderman Brandon Lang suggested the idea of reorganizing the committee as “a revitalization or advisory committee made up of community members and downtown business owners, with one (member) of the board of aldermen as a representative to that board.”
Alderman Roger Romaker suggested the city could keep the existing committee but “make it a dormant committee for now instead of totally eliminating it.” Alderman Christine Wait noted, however, that a dormant committee was “kind of what it is” already.
The board voted 5-0 to eliminate the downtown committee. Alderman Larry Corder was not at the meeting.
Plans to replace the downtown committee have not been finalized.
