The Warrenton Board of Aldermen voted 4-3 against, with Mayor Eric Schleuter casting the deciding vote, a proposal from Alderman Brandon Lang to set a regular work session meeting each month. The vote came during the board’s June 16 meeting.
Previously Lang had desired to have a set day scheduled each month like other nearby cities, such as Wright City do, as opposed to ad hoc work sessions whenever the board chooses to schedule them.
According to City Administrator Brandie Walters, in order to facilitate that the board would need to approve a change to the city’s code to set a specific date for work sessions each month. The proposed day would be the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m.
During the meeting Walters explained that the meeting would require the normal notices be posted and that the board would have to vote to cancel the meeting prior to the date of the meeting, presumably at the prior regular board of aldermen meeting on the first Tuesday of the month.
Alderman Larry Corder said he didn’t feel setting a date would be a lot different from current practice and noted that board members would still need to be effectively rounded up to conduct the meeting. Alderman Christine Wait said she was fine with whatever the board wanted to do either way.
Ultimately the board voted 4-3 against with Corder, Wait and Alderman Jack Crump voting no and aldermen Roger Romaker, Josh Chandler and Lang voting in favor. As the vote was a 3-3 tie, Schleuter cast the tie breaking no vote.
