Warren County schools off to smooth start

A week into the school year, operations are running smoothly in the Warren County R-III School District.Students returned to class Aug. 17 to the many new upgrades and renovations as well as a host of new staff.Dr. Loraine Raziq began her role as principal at Warrenton High School, while Steve Weeks took over as principal at Rebecca Boone Elementary.“Everything went over really well the first few days,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Aaron Jones. Some of the initial concerns were how drop-offs and pick ups would go with the new entrance at Daniel Boone Elementary. Parents also had to improvise with the delays on the new entrance to Black Hawk Middle School.“Everyone worked well together when it came to using the entrances as we figured things out the first few days,” said Jones. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the parents as everyone gets used to the new system.”The district saw an attendance of 97.5 percent on the first day, but will need time to get a count on official enrollment.“That number is really good for the first day of the year,” said Jones. “Over the next few weeks we will get a true idea of our numbers, since we have some kids who may have enrolled at other districts but have not un-enrolled here.”Students encountered new entrances at each of the district’s five buildings, as security vestibules were installed over the summer to filter visitors into the office during school hours.HVAC upgrades were pmade at both the high school and Rebecca Boone Elementary.Jones said there were a few glitches at the high school the first day that were quickly addressed, causing minimal inconvenience.First Day of School
