Warren County Rotary Club 75th anniversary celebration

The Rotary Club of Warren County is planning a 75th anniversary celebration Oct. 19 at the Warrenton Elks Lodge.The Warren County Rotary Club was chartered in April 1944.“On Oct. 19, we’re celebrating the best of our local Rotary Club,” said Phil Reid, Rotary Club president.During the event there will be a meal, music from the band, My Friend Mike. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30, followed by a short program.The event is open to the public and tickets will be on sale soon. The cost is $40 for an individual and $75 for couples.“We’re looking forward to a good crowd and we’ll have plenty of our past and present to share with those attending,” said Jim Ledbetter, the event chairperson.“As a Rotary Club, we’ve been fortunate to have great community support over the years, and as we approach the $1 million mark in scholarship donations, we’re having a beef raffle to help get us closer to the magic million dollar number,” said Bart Korman, immediate past Rotary Club president. “At the present time, we’re at nearly $978,000 in scholarship monies presented to local students over the past three decades, and we’re looking to bump that number up considerably over the next six weeks.”Beef raffle tickets are priced at one for $20, three for $50, and eight for $100. They are available through Rotary members. The drawing is set to occur on the night of the celebration.The Rotary Club of Warren County is part of Rotary International and is one of over 35,000 Rotary clubs worldwide, with worldwide membership in the organization at 1.2 million members.“Rotary International was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris,” notes club member Bob Hysong. “Rotary has been about ‘service above self’ since day one. What has made the organization stand out is its commitment to youth locally and throughout the world.”One of Rotary’s service initiatives is the PolioPlus program, which has worked to eradicate polio.The disease was endemic in 125 countries when the PolioPlus effort began. Now it’s down to three countries: Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan.
