The 2016 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Warren County is already halfway to its goal of $45,000 with a little more than six weeks until the event Saturday, Aug. 27, from 3 to 11 p.m. at Black Hawk Middle School. At the most recent team meeting, the 15 teams currently signed up for the Relay turned in $9,150 to bring this year’s total to $23,128, which is just over halfway to their goal. The teams also are 60 percent of the way to reaching their goal of 25 teams.Teams can still sign up online at www.relayforlife.org/warrencomo.The Relay For Life of Warren County thanked the Hawk Point Lions Club, who donated $218 from their chicken dinner in June to the Put the SSHH on Cancer team. Put the SSHH is currently the top fundraising team with nearly $7,000 raised, which is nearly one-third of the Relay’s total amount fundraised. The team also leads in sponsorships with $2,572 brought in from a total of 10 new sponsors this year.In second place is the Gregory/Kemry team, with $3,654 raised, in big part thanks to team member Carolyn Mueller, who raised $1,264 on her own and brought in nine new sponsors this year. The Relay For Life of Warren County surpassed this year’s sponsorship goal of $7,000 with nearly $9,000 just in sponsorships from the area’s local businesses, 30 of which are new sponsors this year. This year’s sponsors include several “Bronze Level” top sponsors, which represent the $500-$999 range, including Elite Tool in Moscow Mills, CertainTeed, Loving Hands Hospice and the Warrenton Elks Lodge. The Relay For Life of Warren County invites all to “Get Your Game On!” — which is this year’s theme — and join the celebration Aug. 27, remembering and taking action against a disease that has taken too much.Every year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement.“During a Relay event, participants and survivors celebrate what they’ve overcome, as well as remember the people we’ve lost to the disease, and honor people who have fought or are fighting cancer,” said Bobbie Russell, Relay For Life of Warren County committee member.“Our event inspires Relay participants to take action against cancer,” Russell said. This year’s Relay For Life will have many raffles, auctions and goodies for sale during the event. There will be bubble soccer, as well as live music by Captain Courageous Band from 3-5 p.m.The survivors ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. with the singing of the national anthem by Natalie Clayton, followed by a prayer by Pastor Hodgson.Guest speaker Noah Elliot, an 18-year-old cancer survivor from St. Charles, will then share his story. He will be followed by Nancy Butler, who will sing “Wind Beneath My Wings.”All cancer survivors are encouraged to attend and walk during the Survivors Lap and roll call at 6:30 p.m.“During the Survivors Lap, all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track, celebrating their victory over cancer while being cheered on by the other participants who line the track,” Russell said. “The Relay For Life of Warren County is a full day of activities – there’s lots of food and fun for all!”For more information visit www.relayforlife.org/warrencomo or contact Carie Biggs, volunteer, at cariebiggs@gmail.com or 636-485-2391 or Kanna Rook, ACS staff partner, at kanna.rook@cancer.org or 636-866-4884.Relay for Life
