The Warren County Record won three awards in the 2026 Missouri Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Missouri Press Association.
The awards were presented Saturday, Sept. 26, at the MPA Convention held in Columbia. The Record competed against other newspapers across the state with a similar circulation size for work published in 2025.
The newspaper won third place for Best Online Newspapers or Website.
The Record also received third-place awards in the Best Front Page and Best News or Feature Series categories.
Publisher Tim Schmidt received a third-place award for Best Front Page design and former Editor William Carroll was honored for his work on the Warrenton data center project. The judge said, “Good, strong effort to educate your community of the five W's of data centers. You drilled down into the process and presented a balanced package.”
Schmidt will continue serving on the Missouri Press Board of Directors in 2027. He is currently in his fifth year on the board. He has owned The Record since 2019.
Bryan Jones, publisher and owner of the Morgan County Statesman in Versailles, was elected president of the 2027 board. He will officially take office as MPA president Jan. 1.
